ORTLIEB is a German manufacturer of premium waterproof bags and outdoor equipment, selling through a global network of distributors and retail partners worldwide.

Using Magento 2 for online wholesale ordering required extensive adaption

ORTLIEB was running its online B2B portal on Magento 2. While Magento is widely used in ecommerce, supporting ORTLIEB’s wholesale requirements – including how dealers placed and managed orders – meant relying on a combination of plugins to make it work.

This setup introduced complexity. Updates to Magento or individual modules could create conflicts, increasing the effort required to maintain the system and limiting how easily changes could be made. Over time, this affected both internal teams and the dealer-facing webshop, making it harder to evolve the wholesale experience.

As a result, ORTLIEB’s Magento setup no longer felt like a practical foundation for its B2B business.

Moving to a B2B-first platform without owning the maintenance burden

ORTLIEB wanted a B2B webshop that was easier to use and adapt to wholesale requirements without relying on a growing stack of plugins.

Compared to their previous Magento setup, Turis offered a cohesive foundation for their requirements, where changes and maintenance did not require lots of internal resources.

This made Turis a better fit for supporting ORTLIEB’s B2B order flows via the webshop. As Anne Kalmutzki, Digital Project Manager, put it: “Intuitive platform, constant further development, outstanding service!”

Transitioning wholesale order flows to Turis in a few weeks

ORTLIEB replaced its Magento 2 setup with Turis to run wholesale ordering on a platform designed for B2B use cases.

Within a few weeks, most wholesale workflows had been transitioned to Turis, significantly faster than the year-long transitions typical of other platform transitions. This included standard B2B order flows as well as custom adaptations to support pre-order workflows.

The setup also included automatic synchronisation of customer data between ORTLIEB’s ERP and Turis, along with structured exchange of order data. This ensured that essential wholesale data continued to move reliably between systems as Magento was phased out.

A smoother webshop experience for ORTLIEB and its dealers

Following the transition to Turis, ORTLIEB saw clear improvements in how its B2B webshop was maintained and developed. Ongoing updates and adjustments could be made more easily than with the previous setup, supporting continued evolution of the online wholesale channel.

For dealers, the impact was most visible in the ordering experience. With Turis’s intuitive interface, dealers were able to place orders more quickly and conveniently, improving the overall shopping experience and leading to greater customer satisfaction.

At the same time, automated exchange of customer and order data helped ensure information moved reliably between systems, supporting a more consistent wholesale operation as ORTLIEB adapted to changing market needs.
